Prayer for Loss During Burma’s Protest

O God, our Prince of peace, in whose image and likeness have been manifested in us, with a human dignity worthy of respect on earth and destined for eternal glory, listen to the cries that rise from each part of the world, and most especially from our brothers and sisters torn by conflict and violence in Myanmar. Give peace, good and gracious Lord, that which your son Jesus Christ told and what we have experienced during these days, is a peace that transcends all understanding.

To the world leaders, grant them the wisdom to see beyond the boundaries of race, religion, and nation to that common humanity that makes us all your children, brothers and sisters to one another, so that killings from such protest will not happen again in the future. Enlighten our rulers that they may incorporate in the policies defense to Your great gift of peace. May the Burmese and all the people of the world learn how to become brothers and sisters to one another so peace could blossom and reign over us all.

To the military and those who have taken up arms in anger, revenge or even in the cause of injustice, grant the grace of conversion to the path of peaceful dialogue and constructive collaboration. May all of these men and women become witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love. Remove from their hearts such things so as not to endanger peace.

Lastly, to the innocent who live in the shadow of war and terror, particularly the vulnerable children, be the source of their strength and hope, and become their safe haven. To those who have already lost their lives as victims of human cruelty and chemical warfare, open wide your arms and enfold them all in the embrace of your compassion, healing, and everlasting life. Grant this through Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord. Amen.
